The topicality of the study of the rural family is due to both the all-Russian trends characteristic of the whole country 2nd the specifics of regional development, in which the state of the agricultural sector and the health of the rural population, represented mainly by indigenous communities, have always been of priority importance. The purpose of the article is to identify local features and preservation of traditional family values of rural residents of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). The results of the author’s field studies conducted in Central Yakutia arc presented. The article describes r,e habitat and systems of settlement, a brief history of the settlement of the region, considered the evolution of the traditional Yakut family in historical retrospect, analyzed the demographic processes in the studied rural settlements, special attention is paid to modem transformations in the marriage and family sphere. It is emphasized that life and family values, their hierarchy and significance differ by gender groups of the population. It is concluded that there are socio-economic problems in the agricultural sector, complicating the process of adaptation of the rural population to .hanging general environmental conditions (natural, climatic, socio-economic and socio-political), the need to develop differentiated programs of socio-economic development, focused not only on the available resources, but also able to regulate financial investments in rural settlements.
